Workshop: Spring-Based Mechanisms
Description: Take your fabrication skills to a higher level. Springs can be used to add dramatic movement and satisfying functionality to jewelry and small-scale metalwork. Spring-based mechanisms can be complicated, but in this workshop, they'll be distilled down to their core principles to make them easy to understand. To gain hands-on experience, students will make a fun catapult toy that incorporates a trigger mechanism and three different types of handmade springs. The principles and techniques used in this sample project can be extrapolated into boxes, clasps, catches, and mechanisms of all kinds.
Skill Level: Proficient in soldering and sawing
Tool Kit: $25.00 paid directly to instructor
